My Correlation Between Physical Health and Infertility

I accepted Christ into my heart in April of this year and have yet to look back. Since being saved, I have plunged head-first into the Christian lifestyle   I have read countless Bible studies. I have volunteered for a local women’s ministry. I have begun a blog. I have read Scripture daily. Though spiritually I am doing great, if I’m being completely honest, physically I am not. My website is Barbells and Blessings, after all, and yet I haven’t picked up a barbell in weeks. Spiritual health is extremely important but physical health and self-care are also. If you know me and my story, you know I have a difficult time getting pregnant. It is only by God’s good grace that I have the…

Preparing our Hearts for the Holidays

Autumn is upon us and it is incredible! Not because of the typical pumpkin spice and apple cinnamon everything — although those things are wonderful — but because this season is so special! It is special to me because this is the season when I began dating my husband and when both of my children were born, but it’s also special because this is the time we, as Christians, can prepare our hearts for the upcoming Holiday season. Whether it be the stress of unexpected guests or the anxiety of hosting large gatherings; the Holidays can be overwhelming. When I think of the upcoming season, I immediately think of the story of Martha and Mary. To summarize, Luke 10:38-42 goes into the story of Mary…

    Welcome to my Happy Place

As I prepare to begin sharing my workouts, I thought it would be appropriate to show you the equipment I have in my garage gym. Personally, I prefer to work out at home vs. a fitness center. There is absolutely nothing wrong with exercising at a fitness center and I actually have a gym membership that I utilize for fitness classes and long cardio sessions while binge watching Netflix (don’t judge me!!), but as a mom of two toddlers, I need the flexibility of being able to work out at home and not having to worry about finding a sitter or placing my kids in childcare. There is also something so incredibly satisfying about exercising in the southern Georgia heat. The extra sweat that a…

    Sweet Potato Hash

Breakfast hash is nostalgic for me. I think the reason I love it so much is because when we have family in town and have a lot of people to feed, a hash is my go-to choice for breakfast. My husband and I have a love for feeding and hosting people and with him being in the military and us not having family live nearby, we don’t have that opportunity as we would like. Thankfully though, this recipe can be make to feed just one person or as many people as you would like. With this recipe, I include hearty diced sweet potato, sweet bell peppers, diced onions, and wonderful spices to offer a healthier alternative to the traditional hash that you may know.…

    Paleo Banana Nut Muffins

In my house, there is nothing quite like an impromptu baking session. Growing up, I remember like it was yesterday, the sweet chocolatey smell of my grandmother’s German Chocolate Cake. When she would assemble the cake, I can still remember the coconut flakes that would fall freely from the sides of the cake and onto the plate on which it sat. These days, I wouldn’t consider myself half of the baker my grandmother was, but the love and passion for baking is still there. Because I live a healthy lifestyle and focus on wellness for myself and my family, I try not to bake very often. As something I thoroughly enjoy, though, there are a few times when I have taken my favorite dishes, whether…

    A Change of Pace

It’s been quite a while since I’ve written. I’ve wanted to. I’ve thought about it probably a thousand times, but something else always took priority over finding time to sit and spill it all to my little piece of the internet. It could be that. Or it could be that I have found myself in a rut. Writer’s block, if you will? That I have become so focused on other aspects of life that the creative outlet I love so much has become somewhat of a nuisance. When put that way, it sounds bad. It sounds like my love for writing may not be love at all. Loathe, perhaps? You see, God has an incredible way of working in our lives. When God called me…

And Now Why Do You Wait?

I talk so much about the amazing ways in which the Lord speaks to us. A month or so ago, I decided it’s time for me to be baptized. I emailed my ministry team at church and signed up. Last week, I received the emails back and have been hesitant to respond. Am I ready? Have I changed my ways enough? Have I repented enough? Is my heart as pure as it needs to be? Earlier today, I had a conversation explaining my feelings about it to a couple of my Christian girlfriends. I explained my thoughts and worries and they reassured me and we moved onto another topic. Later this afternoon, I began listening to Christian music on my iPhone. I was listening and…

    A Change of Season

Mamas, the change of season is inevitable. We find ourselves shifting from hot days filled with barbecues by the beach to cool evenings spent warming ourselves by a fireplace. Although summertime may be what speaks to our soul, autumn is always around the corner. The same goes for changes in our lives. In my own life, I have noticed God tend to stir things up just as I begin to get comfortable — just as I figure things out. The changing of seasons in our lives is also inevitable, but it is how you adjust and the outlook in which you have, that make all of the difference throughout your journey. Philippians 4:4-7says, “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be…

    Testimony

Today, I am feeling inspired to write. Maybe it is the wonderfully lively aroma of coffee in the air and hearing the hustle and bustle of the other zombie-like beings eagerly waiting for their daily pick-me-ups. It could even be that I know my husband is enjoying himself golfing and my kids are at school, having fun with their friends (aka: mommy time!!). Whatever it may be, I’ll take it! After much prayer, God made it clear to me that I need to make it known how my love for and trust in Him all began. This is lengthy and personal. This isn’t easy for me to write but, it is me and it is how I came to know my Savior. In sharing this,…

    Leap of Faith

God has a beautiful way of speaking to us. Whether it be through His Word in Scripture, through prayer, through our children, through music, or through our circumstances. It is no coincidence that on the day of my initial blog post, this is the ‘Verse of the Day’ on my YouVersion Bible app (this app is AMAZING, by the way!). The day where I am overcome with hesitation. The day where I am fighting anxiousness. The day where I am lacking confidence. Joshua 1:9 states “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” The book of Joshua begins with the death of Moses. At…
